On my recent self-drive adventure into Namibia’s Desert & Dunes region, it felt like driving straight into one of Earth’s most iconic and ancient landscapes - which, of course, it is. Towering red dunes, including the legendary Big Daddy, offer both challenge and reward: panoramic views over Sossusvlei and Deadvlei followed by thrilling descents into surreal, sun-scorched pans.
This region is a dream for self-drive explorers as vast open spaces, ever-shifting sands, and the quiet presence of desert-adapted flora and fauna create an atmosphere of silence, scale, and stark beauty.
