Kafue

National Park

A tapestry of habitats in one park

Kafue National Park is Zambia’s largest and oldest national park - and one of Africa’s best-kept secrets. Vast and varied, it offers everything from open plains and miombo woodlands to wetlands teeming with birdlife. The iconic Busanga Plains in the north are especially famous for seasonal floodplains, big cat sightings, and dramatic skies.

Despite its size, Kafue remains quiet and uncrowded, giving visitors a true sense of wilderness. From boat safaris on the Kafue River to game drives spotting lions, cheetahs, elephants, and more; the park delivers a diverse and authentic safari experience with space to truly roam.

Kafue has a range of excellent lodges and camps to suit all types of travelers, from south to north, this park can keep travelers engaged and enticed for more than a week.

Our Expert Opinion

Kafue is vast - one of Africa’s largest national parks - and its sheer size is an important factor to consider when planning your itinerary. The southern and central regions follow the course of the Kafue River, while the northern Busanga Floodplains offer a lush, wildlife-rich paradise teeming with plains game and birdlife.

The river sustains a diverse array of wildlife and scattered along its banks is a range of inviting campsites and lodges, each with its own game-drive areas to explore. To truly do Kafue justice, we recommend spending at least five days - it’s a destination worth lingering in.
