Lower Zambezi National Park is a wild and beautiful stretch of park beside the Zambezi River before it flows into the Cahora Bassa Dam. With a backdrop of the dramatic Zambezi Escarpment and frontage of broad floodplains, the park offers a stunning mix of land and water-based safari & activities.
Here, elephants wade through channels, buffalo gather on the riverbanks, and predators like lions and leopards roam the woodlands. Canoe safaris glide past pods of hippos and crocodiles, while anglers try their luck with legendary tigerfish. With few lodges and limited development, Lower Zambezi remains relatively uncrowded and deeply wild - ideal for those seeking a peaceful, immersive safari surrounded by nature at its purest.
The park keeps overnight traffic low, with only a handful of lodges within the park. On the outskirts are several lodge and a few camping options.
Lace your trip with a little luxury here to ensure you get closer to the park for quicker access to early morning game experiences. Boat cruises near the park take guests to islands across from Mana Pools (water level dependent) and kayaking excursions can offer some up-close sightings of birds and game alike. Fishing here is a must - so if you are not into angling, rather visits Mana Pools NP, the Zambezi’s Zimbabwean counterpart for camping IN the national park.
